Puppy Crate Traing – Extending The Time In The Crate
Sponsored linksThis is the next step in puppy crate training. After you do this a few times and your puppies get comfortable with being in and out of the kennel, you should begin to close the door for small sections of time. Start with staying in the room with your puppy for short periods of time while praising him for being in the crate. Then start leaving the room and coming back to slide a treat through the door to reward it for staying in the crate.
You will then want to gradually extend your time out of the room to get your puppy used to you not being there. Some pups will hollar at the top of their lungs the second you shut the door, this is common and should be ignored. If you happen to open the kennel when your dog is making a bunch of noise, that will definitely teach them to use that technique when they want to get out.
Calmly wait until your pup halts the whining and open the crate door. Your puppy will gradually learn to like the crate while feeling more comfortable and stop screaming. I know it’s hard when your cute little puppy is crying to get out, but stick to your guns and you will be glad you did. Puppy whining is definitely one of the harder aspects of puppy crate training.
Your puppy will soon start to love it’s crate and you might even see it go in the crate by itself to chill out. Remember, the crate should never be used as a form of punishment.Your main desire is to have your puppies enjoy being in their crates and feel comfortable and relaxed inside. You also never want to leave a puppy unattended in your house for any period of time.
Most puppies are very mischievous and will quickly start exploring things that you don’t want them to.This is not only a problem to the owner, but can be very detrimental to your pup. If you have to do something in the house and can’t keep an eye on your puppy, such as taking a shower, just put the puppy in the crate for a short period of time.
When your puppy has been in the crate for a brief period of time, take it outside right away and let it go to the potty. As soon as your puppy starts to use the bathroom outside, start praising it immediately.Your need at this time is to let your puppies learn that this is what you want them to do.
Here you can use another command such as “Good Potty”, “Good Bathroom”, or “Good Outside”.Your dog should begin to link this command with relieving itself outside. When your puppies are done you can bring them back inside.Your puppy can only go a short period of time without relieving itself so keep doing this over and over again………consistency counts when puppy crate training!!!
