Five Reasons for Dog Barking Problems
Sponsored linksI cannot get the thought of barking dogs off my mind this morning. That is due to laying awake listening to my neighbor’s insane pack of dogs barking at coyotes all night long. This of course allowed me lots of time to do nothing but think about all the nearby dogs with various types of serious barking problems. It became apparent that my normally peaceful neighborhood, has more than its share of occasional dog barking madness.
Here is a short list of just a few of the most common reasons for dogs to engage in excessive barking . So, if your dog is suffering from one of these problems with barking too much, you are going to have to work with him to fix it. Unfortunately, the problem of your dog’s excessive barking will not just go away all by itself.
- It is very common to see ( actually, hearing is a better choice of words) a dog begin barking upon seeing a stranger or another dog come into his view. This behavior is easy to understand, because it is very natural for a dog to want to protect its family and territory from others. This becomes problem barking when a dog just won’t stop the barking even after it has made its point. When the offending object has moved along, the dog feels a positive reinforcement of sorts, thinking he was responsible for chasing the person or dog away form the area that he can see.
- Many times the problems start when dogs start having a long-distance conversation with other neighborhood dogs that just goes on way too long. You can train your dog to stop doing this if he is one of those talkative dogs. You should want to correct your dog if he has this excessive barking problem, for the good of both you and the neighbors.
- Stressed out and insecure dogs are likely to bark for insignificant reasons. These types of dogs have a lot of nervous anxiety issue,a dog will bark for no obvious reason whatsoever. These are the kinds of dogs that often bark on and off all the time unless their masters are with them. My friend used to have a very high-strung dog, which I once saw start barking vigorously at a leaf that fell down from a tree above. Now that was a very nervous dog. All this barking about nothing, made it hard to be around the dog and relax at the same time.
- If a dog is bored and lonely enough he may start a barking rant, just to let everyone else know how he feels. The most likely dogs to develop this kind of problem barking behavior are the ones that are often left alone a lot of the time, with no stimulation via playing, exercising and training.
- Some dogs will bark at their masters (I know this from first hand experience) continually until they get their way-ignoring whether or not you are busy doing something else. If the dog respected its master as the Alpha dog, he would not be trying that. the problem with letting this happen, is that in your dog’s mind he is training you-not the other way around. I have been through this with my Lab-she liked to bark at me when she was bored and wanted to play-she was trying to train me, and did a good job of it too-until I learned better and stopped responding.
