You could show up with a carrier which is too big, only to be told that the airline will not accept it due to its size. Fortunately, all it takes is a call to the airport before you fly out. Make sure you call early enough ahead of time that you have the opportunity to exchange a carrier if you need to do so.

You may be able to carry your dog onto the plane with you, and keep him in the cabin. Small dogs are, of course, most ideal for this. You still need to make sure you find out what kinds of carriers are accepted by the airline in this case. That way you will also know if your dog is the type which can stay in the cabin.

One of the biggest things that you need to make sure of is that your pet is comfortable. You want to make sure that the carrier has enough room for him/her to turn around and be totally comfortable.

It is not hard to find an Airline Approved dogs carrier. You just need to be able to ask pertinent questions. It is your responsibility to find out what the airport and the plane itself will allow. It does not take a lot of time and it can ease the traveling process quite a bit.
